At the end of each semester,
students who are enrolled in
speaking and listening classes
must take an oral interview which
consists of 5 questions. The first
and second are fairly basic
questions. The third involves
describing what is happening in a
picture. The fourth involves a
social or public issue, and the fifth
requires the student to listen to an
excerpt of a news story after which
the student must relay as much of
the story as possible. The passing
score for this test from 1974 into
1975 is 60, however students must
pass the other components of this
course in order to be advanced to
the next level. With regards to
passing the interview test, students
should practice in the OI Test Prep
(OITP) section of Blackboard
regularly.

conducted.
Question 1
How do you get to school each
day?
Question 2
Would you rather get your news
from TV, a newspaper, or the
internet?
Question 3
Look at the picture and describe
what you see. (SUBMERGED
GATORMAN)
Question 4
Do you think it's okay for a wife to
earn more money than her
husband?
Question 5
Listen to the following newsclip.
After hearing it twice, explain what
the recording was about giving as
many details as possible to
demonstrate your comprehension.
Answer these questions in complete
sentences using your best grammar
and vocabulary as if you were taking
the test.
While answering questions on OI Test Prep, students should strive to use their best
grammar and most advanced vocabulary while speaking in complete sentences, just
as they would do during the oral interview. Although some of the questions might be
easy, they should remember answer such questions in a manner that demonstrates
their level. To do so, it is necessary to take the question further than its immediate
context. For example, if you are asked what time you usually wake up in the
morning, simply answering that you wake up at 6:00 is not sufficient. Take your
answer further. I wake up at 6:00 for several reasons. First...; Second...; Third, this
allows me to be fresh and prepared when class begins each day. Go to our class on
Blackboard, then the Blackboard Lab section, then OI Test Prep Samples to listen to
examples of how you should answer these questions.
