Unit 2 / Chapter 1Sample Quiz

Part I

(1) Students must match the
vocabulary words (1-9) with their
definitions (a-i) by writing the letter
of the definition in the blank next to
the vocabulary word.

(2) Students must identify the
correct part of speech for each of
the vocabulary words.  Parts of
speech used throughout the text
include nouns, verbs, adjectives,
and adjectives.  Students may
simply write N, V, ADJ, or ADV for
the respective parts of speech
above.

NOTE:  Definitions and parts of
speech may be found in the back of
the Active textbook.

Part II

(1) Students must place the
appropriate vocabulary word into
the blank of each of the sentences
in this section.

(2) Students may need to alter the
words by giving the plural form of a
noun or the appropriate tense of
the verb.

Part III

(1) Students must give the
definition of the prefix, suffix, or
root word from this unit.

(2) Students must give 3 sample
words that use the prefix, suffix, or
root word from this unit.

(3) Students must give the
definitions of the 3 sample words
that they have provided.

NOTE:  Sample words must NOT
be one of the 9 vocabulary words. 
Sample words, as well as the
definition of the prefix, suffix, or root
word, may be found within the
corresponding unit.

Front Half

(1) Students must place the

GRADING NOTE:  The correct
word is worth 5%.  However, 1% is
deducted for verb / noun form
mistakes.

Comprehension Check

(1) Students must circle the correct
answer for each of the 5
comprehension questions
regarding ONLY the 2nd reading of
the unit.

GRADING NOTE:  Each of these 5
comprehension questions is worth
10% of the final score.

Writing

(1) Students must write an
academic paragraph answering the
question at the bottom of the page
which is related to the topic of the
unit.

GRADING NOTE:  This academic
paragraph is graded separately as
S or G.
